12 OCT 08 - The MS Bike Ride 2008
In between my business trips over the last couple of months, I was able to squeeze in some training, including the daunting Torrey Pines Hill, which is a 400 feet elevation gain over 1.7 miles. Not for the faint of heart. I did it well during training and did it well again for the actual bike ride. Torrey Pines Hill appears at about mile 78 of the two-day ride.
I am sure the first-timers were tired of me saying it, but the bike ride this year seemed a lot shorter than before. This is likely due to my recognition of the course, as well as decent cross training over the last few months, including some running and walking many miles throughout Boston and Chicago. All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be back next year, perhaps with some more people on our team.

1 FEB 08 - A Great day in Big Bear
The PD and I drove up late on Thursday in order to get an early start on the slopes. After a long wait at Jack in the Box, we ended up getting one of the last parking spots at Snow Summit. We will have to get up a little earlier next time if we want to avoid the long walk.
But, overall, the weather, snow and crowds were all perfect. In addition, we got off the mountain soon enough to avoid the traffic home.

21 JAN 08 - A Cold MLK Day
We went out in search of the rumored Yellowtails that were biting like crazy off of La Jolla. We set off at about 6 AM. We didn't catch anything, nor did we see anyone catching anything. We did, however, experience rain, wind, large choppy swells and a surf that capsized our kayak, twice. And it was cold.

"What are the first stages of hypothermia?"

See the smile? He was warm.
